Changes To the Pool During Construction, and How This Will Affect Stevenage Dolphins Swimming Club

As you are aware, the current leisure facilities across Stevenage are being merged into one site. This means that the swimming pool will be a part of a brand-new Leisure Centre with a gym, badminton and squash courts, dance studios, an indoor splash park and a café.

Our club will still be a part of this new facility, but there will be some changes during the construction work which will affect the way we run the club for the duration of the building work.

Our intention is that we will still be open every Sunday, 4.00pm to 5.15pm as normal. Construction crews will be on site from late Summer 2025 and they will be using the car park between Bowes Lyon and the pool to set up for the start of construction, which means this car park will be closed permanently. Parking will be available on the other side of the pool in the original car park with access via the entry and exit points. Entry to the pool will be via a door on the car park side, to be determined, and club volunteers will be on hand to direct you to the correct entrance.

From the end of 2025 construction will be underway and the construction team will be moving onto the remaining car park which means there will be no onsite parking for the duration of the build. Parking will be available at the public car parks across town.

The new Leisure Centre is planned to open sometime in 2027 so these new procedures will need to be in place until the official opening. The club committee will be invited to have a look around to make sure the facilities are suitable for us during the closing stages of construction and on completion, before we officially reopen to you, our members.

We are planning to keep the club running as normaly as possible for the duration of the building project, but there may be days when we cannot hold a session. Please keep an eye on our Social Media platforms and websites for updates and news on any potential closures during this period.

Once the new Leisure Centre is open there will be some minor changes to the way Stevenage Dolphins Swimming Club operates, and more details will be available nearer the time. All of this is of course subject to planning approval, and we will keep you informed as soon as we have the details from Stevenage Borough Council and EveryoneActive.

If you have any questions, please speak to any of the Club Committee, either on the Check In Desk or at one of our sessions. You can also email us via info@stevenage-dolphins.org.
